How did i learn english?

Today I want to tell you how did I learn English .

My former English skill was terrible . When I was in high school, English is one of the essential subjects in curriculum.

But even about 10 years of studying English in school can’t help me to be a fluent speaker. So, what was wrong with that?

Most of the time, our English teacher instructed us to memorize vocabulary by heart and to learn English grammar structure. There in exams, they gave us sentences to convert one grammar to another style. So, we had to remember formula to be able to convert such kind of sentences. Memorizing vocabularies were the most difficult part for me. English is one of the subject in matriculation examination. In exam, there were closed up type questions to fill up the blanks with proposition ,conjunction and so on. But all the paragraphs were from text book . So, if I can memorize all the essay in text book, I could pass that test. There was an letter and essay writing in exam , but I could not write with my own style either. Seems like my English foundation was a bit weak.

When I was in medical school, all the subjects were learned in English . 2^nd Year was my most difficult time because I confronted with many strange terminologies and reading and writing were still weak. But, some how I did pass all university years .

When I was young ,opportunity to watch English movies and English speaking programs were so rare in my hometown . My home didn’t have satellite TV and there was no English speaking television programs either. Therefore, my listening skill was also zero. During my first year of college, the country became more open up and English speaking movies were easily accessible.

At the time, I could not even read English novel and watch English movies without Burmese subtitle. I was starting to use Internet . I watched many movies and series during my student life. I tried to watch with English subtitle whereas Burmese translations were unreliable. Since then, I always watched and listened only in English and totally neglect Burmese subtitles.

I practice my English writing in facebook .In that way ,I possessed a satisfactory level.

I didn’t have a partner to practice English .Therefore, I used tools like internet, e-dictionary,ebooks,music,movies and grammar check software to improve my engish.

It doesn’t actually reach a certain level I really hoped for .But, I have reached a certain distance and I am keep walking .

One day, I must be the one who can fluently speak  and write as a native English speaker.
